ABOUT THE SOFTWARE
Ok, enough of that stuff. And now about the program itself...
Federal Express Label Printer V1.01a was written to help anyone
who has much better things to do than to hand type up Federal
Express labels. It's time consuming, a pain in the neck
(especially when you have a billion of them), and you inevitably
make mistakes requiring you to rip up the one you're on and to
start over again.
Until now. This program allows you to take advantage of those
little holes on the sides of these labels by feeding them into
your dot-matrix printer. You can edit basic Sender information,
and keep a list of people whom you send things to. There is
complete on-line help, so, no matter where you are in the
software, you can have basic questions answered.
The name of this program may lead you to believe that this
software prints Fed Ex labels only. Not so, since this version
will also print Express Mail (our beloved Post Office's answer to
overnight mail) labels as well. If enough people register and I
can get my hands on other types of labels, future updates of this
program will include them as well.
ABOUT THE EXTRA FILES
Following is a basic description of FEDEX101's auxiliary files:
FED_FROM.* - Contains sender data for Federal Express labels
FED_MAIL.* - Contains sender data for Express Mail labels
FED_TO .* - Contains list of recipients and their data
FED_CTL .* - Contains printer codes and other program
options*
FEDEXLBL.HLP - On-line help file
FEDEX101.EXE - The executable program
* This file is a required file that must exist in the same
directory as the .EXE file in order for this program to work! If
the other .DAT or .K01 files do not exist, or are not in the same
directory, this program will create them in the same directory.
If you are missing this file, please contact me on CompuServe and
I will send you a copy of this file.

INSTALLATION
You should probably create a separate directory for this program,
since all of these program files MUST reside in the same
directory. See your DOS manual if you are unfamiliar with
creating directories. You should then copy all of the above
files into that directory, and you'll be ready to roll! To
execute the program, type: FEDEX101 at the prompt and the program
will run. Ex:
C:\FEDEX101\>fedex101
If you plan to install this program on a network, you should
create a separate directory, and mark all of the data files as
Shareable Read Write (use FLAG command with Novell Netware), and
mark FEDEX101.EXE and FEDEXLBL.HLP as Read Only. Prior to
executing this program, you should execute your network
software's printer capture utility if you plan on printing to
network printers (use CAPTURE command with Novell Netware). See
your network manual if you have questions.
SETTING PROGRAM OPTIONS
After installation, the next thing you should do should be to set
up your program options. Do this by selecting the EDIT PROGRAM
OPTIONS menu choice from the top menu. Another window will
appear, allowing you to change the program options. A help
window will appear anywhere in this program by typing F1.
PRINTING AND SETTING PRINTER CODES:
As I do not know what printer you are using, you'll have to check
your printer manual to get the specific codes for 10CPI printing
and UNCOMPRESSED printing, if you do not use an Epson compatible
printer. The reason the program uses these codes is because
other software may change the status with out resetting it (such
as the accounting software I use). If you wish, you can leave
these two fields blank (type Ctrl-Home to clear the field), and
no codes will be sent to the printer.
The current set-up is for Epson and compatible printers. If you
use a different printer, enter the correct code for your printer.
To print unprintable characters such as Esc, hold the Alt key
down while you type its ASCII decimal code on the numeric key
pad.

PRINTING, PROGRAM SETUP, Cont.
Ex: To enter the code for 10CPI printing for Epson printers,
while holding down the Alt key, type 027 on the numeric keypad.
After releasing the Alt key, a left arrow should appear.
DATE ON LABEL:
Press enter if you want today's date. You can change this
anytime you like, however every time you select this window, the
date will revert back to today's date.
SHOW SENDER'S ACCOUNT ETC.:
Use these switches depending on whether you have pre-printed
labels or not. (use left and right cursor keys to move the
selector bar)
SAVE ADDRESS ON ONE TIME LABELS?:
If you choose to print up a label one time rather than print a
label from your address file, this option will save the
information of the last label sent, so long as you don't exit the
program.
DEVICE NAME OF PRINTER?:
This software can print to any legal DOS device (i.e. LPT1, LPT2,
CON, COM1, COM2, etc.) If you print to any of the serial ports
(COM1 etc.), make sure that you set the correct mode for that
port.
Ex:
C:\FEDEXLBL\>mode com1:9600,n,8,1,p
When feeding the labels into the printer, please note that
Federal Express and the Post Office saw it fit to make the forms
larger than the 8 1/2 inch standard. To compensate for this,
move the form as far left in the printer as it will go.

PRINTING YOUR FIRST LABEL
You should now be ready to print your first label! Let's first
do a test label: You should first feed in the FedEx (or Express
Mail) labels into your printer. Then using the pull down menu
titled "Print Labels", select 'Print Federal Express labels from
List'. The next window will be a window allowing you to select
recipients. There should only be one, a series of
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX's. Make sure the label is lined up, and just hit
Enter. The selector bar will blink to let you know that it will
print. Check the label to see that it printed correctly. If
your alignment is off, reset the label and try again until it is
correct. Once you are all set, make note of the correct
alignment so that you won't have to go through this process
again.
Other stuff: You can add people to the recipient's list by
selecting 'Edit recipient's' list from the 'Edit Lists' menu.
Other helpful keys:
Esc - Go back to previous field.
Enter - Accepts a field, or selects an item for editing
or printing.
Ctrl-Enter- Accept a whole window
Ctrl-Esc - Reject a whole window or a menu screen
Ins - Add an item when editing recipients
Del - Delete an item when editing recipients
Ctrl-Home - Clear a whole field
Ctrl-End - Clear to end of field
F1 - pull up context sensitive help screen
Up and Down cursor
keys - move menu bar, selector bar, or move
between fields.
